Old Boys Division 1 had a comprehensive win in the final of the Social Preseason Competition on Tuesday night. Old Boys beat old foes Queens Park 4 – 1. Scorers were Turk Turnbull (Penalty), Ed Langlands, Scott Donaldson and club legend and evergreen Gordy Lamont.

As we arrived at the designated time of 6.15 pm at the turf, we see the opposition already warming up and ready to go but this Queens Park eagerness will not help them.
As the start of the first half began tension was high we knew what was at stake, the fans flocked to the turf in the tens, and the atmosphere was tense ready for the big match.
The opening goal perfectly slotted away from a penalty by Turk Turnbull (all set up by myself taking a hit for the team).
The first 20 minutes were some of the best football our team has produced so far with an early 3-0 lead. Myself (Ed Langlands) with second goal (masterfully placed) and a screaming header from Scott Donaldson.
From this great start the game became rather even with mistakes made from both sides with several calls being made from the referee including a high foot from me. Finally half time was called.
The second half wasn’t our best work either but we grinded out the last 45 minutes with a fluky goal from Queens Park which was followed up by a screamer from our very own defender Gordon Lamont, which was properly followed up with a celebration.
Finally the match came to an end with no hat-trick from Will Dymond as promised but I’m sure he is waiting for the proper season to start. We came away with the 4-1 win leaving Queens Park disheartened. Overall it was a great game and great way to start the season. Quick thanks to Jared Cuff for the sideline banter, keeping the subs and I’m sure the fans entertained.
Congratulations to the team well played, with one trophy under our belts I hope there will be more to come.
