Table unchanged following dour draw
Old Boys vs Thistle 25-5-19
Waverley Park
0-0
Saturday saw a top of the table clash to finish round two of Donald Gray between Old Boys and Thistle. An important game for both teams with the home side able to double their lead and for Thistle a chance to go top on points and take the Larry.
Better conditions for the team this week. Old Boys started with a slight tail wind and probably had the better of the first half albeit only creating two clear cut chances. The first saw Kyle into the box and with a chance to place his shot but the pressure of the defenders forced the shot straight to the keeper.
The other chance was foiled by the Ref who was having none of an obvious handball when the Thistle defender having been so bamboozled by Kyle fell on his backside and then handled the ball while on the ground. This decision was met with howls of protest from the home team players and supporters.
Thus 0-0 at the half time break. Into the second half and Frank came on for some fresh legs up front. Thistle had the better of the second half but apart from one pinball moment of madness close to the end also didn’t create any clear-cut chances. As the half developed both teams probably guilty of not wanting to lose it more than anything and as such the game petered out in its final stages. Frank had one late chance with a header but unfortunately couldn’t get any power into it.
So, no change to the competition standings with Old Boys holding a 3 point lead heading into the second half of the season and remaining unbeaten. A week off for Queens Birthday before we do it all again.
