The Prems travelled to Gore on Saturday looking to atone for last weekends loss. During the week we had identified several areas to improve on and the squad appeared focused on the task. Gore turned on a great afternoon and the pitch was in good condition.
Kicking off to the south Old Boys were into their work early with the new combination upfront of Jose and Laurent putting pressure on the defenders and creating some free kicks and corners. However, Gore were first on the scoresheet with a nice volleyed finish from a cross into the box that found us not marked up.
Putting this setback behind us the guys got back to work and eventually unpicked the Gore defense with Jared streaking away towards goal only to be slide tackled from behind. The Ref with no hesitation in awarding a penalty despite indications that some ball was involved.
Jose stepped up to take the penalty and calmly sent the keeper the wrong way to get his tally underway in 2020. Jared then got on the scoresheet himself when he poked home from close range from a freekick. Gore should have levelled just before halftime, but their striker put it over from close range.
Into the 2nd half and it was an even affair when at the 15-minute mark Coach Reuben called for a double substitution. The Ref and his linesman decided we are in the EPL when judiciously following the new rules and allowing play to continue despite the new subs not having taken the field of play. Defending with just 9 at this point Gore took quick advantage and poked home an equalizer of their own.
The game hung in the balance for the next ten minutes as both teams had handy chances to wrest control of the game. Jared and Jose combined upfront again with Jose showing excellent control to bring the ball down in the box and coolly place it past the onrushing keeper for a 3-2 lead. Shortly after he had a chance to make it three for the day but some last ditch defending kept him at bay.
Not to be denied though with around 10 minutes to play Jose went on a jinking run down the touch line and cleverly fooled the defenders to prod home his third and Old Boys fourth for the afternoon.
A well-deserved hat trick for the new recruit who took Player of the Day honours. Thanks to Gore for being great hosts as always.
