Old Boys Div 1 sneak past Thistle
Conditions couldn’t be better for open and expanding football. Old Boys won the toss and kicked off attacking towards the south end of Waverley Park.
Some nice neat interplay between Stitch at centreback linking up with Ed Langers on the left wing who beats two players and creates half a yard of space and swings a wonderful ball in towards the back post. The Thistle centreback admired the cross so much he commits and cynical foul and hits the ball with his hand. It felt like a age but Russell finally blows the whistle and points towards the penalty spot.
There was some confusion as to who was going to take the penalty as go to guy Will Dymond was on the bench with super Sub Ben the two marquis old boys forwards could not take the penalty and Reuben Lindsey by this stage was fatigued due to skying to many balls over the bar at training. Turk Turnball was held responsible for the penalty and to Dymond’s disappointment slotted it with ease. 1-0 Old Boys.
Minutes past with the two Old Boys markeys still resting up on the slide line. The Thistle keeper runs himself into trouble by taking to many touches and is soon forced himself into a rushed clearance. The clearance landed very kindly and Cory Fowler who took a beautiful touch to play in Turnball in for a beautiful 35 yard chip which landed top corner or as Turk would say ” Top Bins” 2-0 Old Boys.
The Impact strikers Dymond and Ben now were subbed on after some rough and niggly challenges for the next 40 minutes Thistle managed to pull back 2 goals and make the game 2-2. Late In the second half a ball is played into Turnball who completes the hat-trick with what is sure to be the winning goal 3-2 to Old Boys.
Full time meant Old Boys AFC wins 3-2 with Turk Turnball scoring 5 goals in two games and Dymond still waiting to get his name on the score sheet ( last weeks yellow card didn’t count).
